> A drop off in advertised vacancies has led to a rise of “job hugging”, the trend of workers reducing their job searches and staying put in their current roles.
I guess because “workers are terrified job security doesn’t exist anymore, that AI may render their entire career redundant, so they’re staying put” doesn’t read as cutesy and _fun_ as “job hugging”

Did they really need to make up the term “job hugging”? Eejits.

People apply to fewer vacancies when there are fewer vacancies to apply to? Big if true.
I thought you were supposed to just quit your job first and then hope for the best.

No doubt people want to hug an existing job rather than take on a new one and be quickly replaced by AI

Most new jobs are ambiguous at best when it comes to WFH or hybrid flexibility.
The might state on the advert 5 days on site but then you hear from employees that they only expect you to be in for 2 or 3 days.
When you are in a job that you know is flexible regarding wfh, even though its not in your contract, youre not gonna take the risk of moving to another workplace that might enforce a RTO order.
Im trying to think of how much of a raise id willingly accept to completely RTO and honestly I cant think of it. It would want to be stupidly high, like more than 50k above my current salary, thats how much I value the hybrid flexibility.
You’d think linked in would be able to put 2+2 together and publically say that remote work jobs are much more desired than office jobs but I guess they dont want to piss off their customers.

Job hugging sounds about as legitimate a term as the silicone docks in Dublin

Hah? So job hugging is not looking for or moving to other roles because you’re secure enough in your current one? Isn’t that just called being employed?

Job hugging? Isn’t that called being employed and happy where you are?

Global economic instability on the horizon is probably more of a concern than AI. You never know what coming next and there’s a very unpredictable US situation which we’re massively exposed to.
