It is of course important to have rigorous structures in place when dealing with evidence and money. That being said there are very important details missing here such as the amounts involved and the conclusions in those cases. 41 cases in 5 years is less than 10 per year and only 11 of those are outstanding. Was money stolen, mislaid, stored improperly?

The headline suggests people are stealing this money but the substance of the says they don’t actually know. It is a half finished story until we have that information.

If there are this many being investigated, how many other times has evidence or money not even made it as far as the Garda station to get logged in.

With the lowering of standards for Garda admission to training and lowering of Garda wages, this will just lead to Guards being more likely to try stuff like this.

I was told this is a given in any of the city stations with drug seizures etc.

My sons, wallet, phone and new bag all went missing. No explanation just told to get lost. So this doesn’t surprise me at all.
