Is this really allowed under International law?

It was not military vessel, it had Oman flag, and Russia isn’t under International sanctions but western sanctions. Being under International sanction would mean being under UN sanctions.

Was it empty or is there now an oil spill?

This is international waters. When Ukraine struck 2 of them in Blacksea, Russia struck back at 2 ships that were at Odessa. If this war gets spilled into international water, some sort of disaster will happen for sure.

I understand Ukraine’s desire to target Russia’s economy but everything should be done with great considerations of what it may lead to.

We should be capitalising on this with small Ukrainian teams working out of allied countries targeting these ships with their drones. They can claim additional victories and cost Russian further expenses.
