  1. Of course not, if anything he’s not stupid. But straight from the fascist playbook, the bigger the lie, the more people will believe it.

  2. MirosExcelent on

Who gives a shit? If he truly believes it, the effects are the same. The dead will not regain their lost lives. I couldn’t give less of a shit if a criminal believes he’s in the right.

  3. He truly believes that Russia is a great nation that is not being respected or taken seriously by the west, and that the only way to save the Russia he knows and wants to resurrect, is to forcefully propel it through the western boot keeping it down, yes.

He absolutely believes Russia is the victim.

What Putin does or doesn’t believe does. Not. Matter.

He needs to lose this war, and he needs to lose it *soon*.

  5. Burpetrator on

Sort of… he and his predecessors wrote their own history of Russia, created their own reality, and now he thinks people should give him what only he thinks belongs to him

Authoritarians and dictatorships all have a major vital flaw: they huff and puff too much of their own kool-aid propaganda and starting to believe their delusional worldview.

Putin truly believed he could take Ukraine in 3 days for example.

    Same old same old.

I sometimes wonder what possible purpose these kind of articles have. Can we channel our resources on their weaknesses and how to abuse them? Anything productive rather than gossip? Free press can be an enormous advantage – or we resume opionated articles and clickbait..?

As someone who grew up in a post-soviet country I can wholeheartedly attest that not only Putin, but a lot of Russians feel like victims despite living around people who have been victimised by *them* for *half a century*. I don’t know how or why, but there is zero accountability present when you confront Russians (a majority, from my limited experience. But I have not talked to every single Russian alive, so take it as my personal opinion) with a long list of Soviet/Russian empire crimes. They will say “Russia is not USSR”, but then turn around and erect monuments to and name war ships after soviet generals unironically seeing zero flaws in that logic.

They *feel* they should be a great and respected country, but the inability to achieve it morphs into hatred as soon as anyone around them starts showing signs of progression compared to them. This is literally the childish “if I can’t have it – I will break it so no one has it” behaviour but with tanks and nukes.

They were never held accountable for atrocities they’ve committed and we are now witnessing the consequences. That’s why they needed to lose the war in Ukraine like 2 years ago. But here we are.

Probably some .. i mean stalin was also crazy.. most dictators are crazy.. you also must be.. because these ppl go to bed knowing they juist killed hundreds of ppl daily so they can rule an extra piece of land like a tyrant..

It’s Russian culture, invade a neighbour, murdering left and right, then complain their great mission of liberating the neighbour from themselves was misunderstood and how they are falsely accused of being a bad guy. Putin is the epitome of Russian culture.

Look, all militaristic dictators live in a bubble since nobody in his surrounding dares to tell the truth. That happened to Hitler and loads of other bastards. If you report truth you are a walking dead or dismissed at best. That’s why they report towns captured months before it actually happened….well not capture but total devastation.

  12. disconnect0414 on

    Yes.
Ruskies are victim, and everyone who is against them (defenders) are nazis

  13. ProductGuy48 on

He has lied for everything his entire life, even to himself, to the point where I am sure he doesn’t fully know what is real and what isn’t anymore. The same thing happens with all dictators, and then they get the bullet.

  14. Part of his KGB training: whatever you say in public should further your goals.

Relation of such words to truth or decency was not part of that training.

  15. QuirkyWish3081 on

If someone told you the sky was pink would you believe them?

  16. medievalvelocipede on

It doesn’t matter what Putin thinks. The only thing he should do is swim in chloric acid.

  17. No he does not. He is ex KGB agent. For him and in Russia in general, truth is subjective. Truth is whatever Kremlin says that is, say or believe different and you are on a list.

  18. When you spread the lie so much, you have to start believing in it.

  19. Jake-of-the-Sands on

He’s delusional so that may very well be true to him. He must be stopped at all cost ASAP.

  20. of course he doesnt, he isnt an idiot, he’s just a liar and a gaslighter, BUT he understands that if you can fool enough people with a lie that is big enough and gratuitous enough then numbers and momentum count for a lot . . . unfortunately he’s right

  21. tnksrbrnddtrtrs on

well, even if he doesn’t, tons of tankies unironically do

Jesus fucking Christ with these news articles. This is not fucking news so stfu

In his mind, Putin plays a grand strategy game like EUIV or HOI4. All while enriching himself to heaven of course.

  24. manu144x on

Putin comes from the world of the KGB. Of secret services, intelligence services and all that.

You need to understand that’s a really bad mindset to have, and applying it on a macro scale, at the level of russia, is disastrous.

In that world, every single thing is a conspiracy. Behind every little thing there’s someone else. Everything has an ulterior motive.

Imagine that paranoid conspiracy theorist we all laugh at because he thinks there are microchips in the vaccines, jews run the world (remember who started this rumor?), and all the craziest stuff? That’s how these people are.

They can’t utterly conceive people don’t give a crap about anything more than their family and having a good enough financial situation to live a good life. Everything is geopolitical, everything is double ended, if someone wins, someone else for sure loses.

This is how these people view the world. They can’t conceive eastern europe wanted to leave the russian system: they must have been fooled and manipulated by the west.

They can’t conceive the only reason people want to join the EU is simply money (EU is at least honest enough to accept this), they think it’s all some grand scheme that somehow will end up disadvantageous to russia, even if nobody cares.

Putin is wearing full bulletproof vests in public. There’s no other dictator on the planet, that may be way more hated than he is, that does this. He does.

  25. EnoughPrimary6700 on

He’s delusional. He bombs civilians, hospitals and powerplants, commits horrible crimes against humanity and cries out loud with crocodile tears: “Poor me! Don’t you see I’m the ultimate victim?! How unfair of you, evil West, not to show any compassion and respect!”

  26. Talismftw on

If you start believing ANYthing he says it means he is winning.
