Maybe if farmers would get paid a fair price and not completely scammed by supermarkets and the likes? At least in my country the duopoly market that is groceries has the two dominating chains pocket all the profits and only pay farmers pennies. Farmers and people getting ripped off while the supermarkets make close to 10% net profit margin over the year.

Maybe farmers would get a fair price if they demanded it from their customers instead of taxpayers and government.

This is absolutely necessary. Megacorporations are investing on housing (Blackrock), water (Nestlé), electricity… If we eliminate our European food production and depend on other countries, enter Blackrock, Nestlé and every one of those to hard food production and leave us starving.

I know the system could be better, but Europe **needs** to be in control of its own food supply.

We should be controlling the margins of the middlemen, though.

We should invest half of this money to printed food technology and get rid of farmer problems in few years.

  5. And that’s not enough, they also need to undermine our industry and diplomatic relations with the other one friendly region of an increasingly anti-European world.

  6. It used to be way more. Agriculture is a strategic industry and it is imperative that we have food independence. CAP is a clear success. Without it our farmers would be in the same situation as US farmers where 30% are going bankrupt every year and megacorps buy up the land.

However that doesn’t mean that it should cripple all other industries. CAP guarantees minimal price which ensures that the majority of Europe’s food is produced in EU. As such the agriculture sector should not have a veto in politics. We live in a dangerous world and unless we can have access to other markets than US we will be made into tributaries (we arguably already are).

But that’s what the original common market was based upon – cheaper cost and allocation of food across what is now the EU.

I understand the need to subsidize vital crops, fruits and like for the worst case scenario but how much of these subsidies goes to producing “luxury” food items such as blue cheese and wine?

I really don’t know. France has branded itself as this “luxury” food exporter so it would be nice to actually know how much EU subsidizes French agricultural exports.

I get that France produces much more than these high end foods, but the brand sticks.

and yet they still can’t get their shit together. Polluting everything and a decline in large scale animal agriculture (massive co2eq and methane) emitter is nowhere to be found. Fuck these farmers.
