Depends what you do with it. Nobody is forcing you to use instaface or X-tok or whatever.

yeah, shocker, the internet was fun when it was just kids and young adults creating communities around hobbies and interests

social media was okay at first but soon descended the internet into a cesspit

and now the advertisers, politicians etc have pretty much ruined the whole thing.

I definitely think that the spread of disinformation has really neutered the benefits of the internet, since now that global access to information is tainted by incorrect information intentionally at higher and higher levels, to the point that even the US Gov provably removed scientific studies that contradicted a particular narrative.

Without regulation of disinformation as well as predatory algorithms that farm engagement solely to the detriment of public unity, the internet is a tool best suited to sow chaos than bridge the gap for information and education.

The world is healing. On a similar note more and more people are moving away from streaming to books and board games. Because surprise surprise corporations ruin everything.

Nazi maggots are infesting every corner of every platform and fuck all is being done about them. AI, massive misinformation bot campaigns and lying media outlets are making sure we can’t trust *anything* anymore. Staying up to date on current events just means finding out how many “once in a lifetime” tragedies and massacres happened this week and why we should blame immigrants for what robber barons are doing

Of course this shit isn’t good for our mental health. Any bit of good news is a tiny, temporary oasis in a continent sized desert of bullshit

I hear this, mostly from young guys who receive the messaging by spending ungodly amounts of time, online, consuming Manosphere nonsense.

I’ve just never seen any young person, any person I know personally, for that matter, work to lessen their digital intake. Young or old.

It is also practically useless, full of AI slop, search results that are manipulated or filtered, or full of ads or to sell something. The enshitification is at full speed, and everything is virtually useless and getting worse.

They seem to want to do anything BUT actually deal with the social media companies
Censorship being rammed down our throats isn’t fixing bugger all its more a convenient biproduct of governments (not just ours) inaction

  10. Well yeah, they can go to jail for speaking their minds on it.

I’d like to think one of the positives of AI will be that scrolling mindlessly on your phone will be a thing of the past.

Your first point of call for accessing information online would be speaking to AI – only if required would it ping a webpage or something to your browser.

I do this a lot now, i ask Gemini for information. If I need to check something further I’ll go online.

I can’t agree more. It was good in the beginning. A new information age built on sharing. Now it’s a cess pool of misinformation full of bots trying to radicalize everyone.
