“More than 800 migrants in 13 boats crossed the English Channel on Saturday, according to Home Office data.
The figure is a record for a December day in recent years, and is believed to be due to a backlog of people wanting to get across to Kent because of recent bad weather.
It takes the total for the year to 41,455 people, surpassing 2024, when there were 36,816 for the entire year.”
So, the problem is getting objectively worse. The deal with France appears to be a smokescreen to protect this government from scrutiny whilst nothing actually changes.

We absolutely need to step up the deportation deal so these people know they won’t be allowed to stay. We also need to apply more diplomatic pressure to the source countries to get them to take their people back – many of them value visas to visit the UK or receive international aid from the UK, so we have some leverage. We need to stop being scared to look mean and start applying it.
And people who are awaiting the process or refuse to give information about where they’re coming from need to be detained somewhere they can’t just mix with the black market economy. At the moment, merely getting here and making a claim allows you to live a life that is dreamland if you come from some poor village without water or electricity, so the prospect of your claim being denied (eventually) isn’t any kind of deterrent.
As expected, the “nobody came” was just because of the weather.

We need Rawanda style deterrence back. Try anything and everything. This is beyond absurd. We are being taken for a freaking joke.

It’s almost like people were right, it was the weather when there were zero boats a week ago…despite the ridicule on this sub from many, to those people.
