Sono un turista attualmente nella zona di Larnaca. So che ci sono molti gatti a Cipro e organizzazioni che li aiutano e si prendono cura di loro. Oggi abbiamo visto un gatto maschio giovane ed estremamente amichevole vicino al sentiero del fiume a Kakopetria. È quasi saltato nella mia borsa e praticamente ha implorato di essere preso. Ho notato che aveva una ferita sulla gamba sinistra. Come turisti, cosa possiamo fare? Ho pensato di prenderlo, ma poi? Andare dal veterinario senza appuntamento non garantirebbe un trattamento diretto e non posso tenerlo nella mia camera d’albergo. Sono anche a quasi 2 ore di macchina. La logistica non è proprio ideale e parto tra pochi giorni. Conosci qualche comunità di beneficenza o amante dei gatti nella zona che potrebbe aiutare? Posso sponsorizzare le spese del veterinario, purché non siano estremamente alte.
E sì, lo so, ci sono tanti gatti bisognosi di aiuto… Ma questo era giovane e molto amichevole. La ferita era profonda ma fresca e poteva guarire bene con un trattamento adeguato. Sarebbe adottabile. Altrimenti anche il TNR aiuterebbe, restituendolo nella sua comunità come un gatto sano ma senza il rischio che dia altre cucciolate. Il mio cuore si è spezzato dovendo allontanarmi da questo ragazzo

You know, there are more than a million cats in Cyprus. There are refuges, but there is so little room for adoption, when there are more cats than humans…
If you really want to help this cat in particular – and trust me wounded cats are pretty much everywhere, dead cats and kitties too – go to the vet and pay for the treatment. But honestly, it won’t change anything, I know it’s cruel, but man when you live in Cyprus, you come to see dead kittens and cats monthly if not weekly.
There are cat sanctuary on the island, you can call them and give them the cat + give them a donation for the cat to be fed.
But yeah if you want to help this cat, you should adopt it. Maybe you could ask a sanctuary to keep the cat so when you come back you can have it?
Idk really. But yeah the sad reality with cats in Cyprus is that you can find a super friendly cat, and they will disappear from a day to another. I’m there since 2022 and the oldest cat I see on the daily is one that I probably saw at the first time as a kitty late 2023.
So yeah, thank you for trying to help, hope other members will guide you towards a solution for this one.
