Even going to Tenerife, a place for tourists that survives from that sort of tickle down economy, they still have cheaper fuel, by a large margin.

Blatant profiteering is a huge problem here, covid and Ukraine has allowed companies to take the piss

I don’t understand why we can’t manage to elect a party that just stops this shit. Screw this free market capitalist bullshit, it doesn’t work, put in laws against profiteering and limit the margins you can make on fuel, electricity, water, trains etc. These arnt luxuries they are required to exist as functional members of society for the majority of people.

The tesco extra in my town has the most expensive fuel of the 3 other garages in the area. They are going to win the prize for the most expensive tesco fuel in the uk over the year.

Another reason I’m extremely smug about riding a pushbike for transport.

Shame the article didn’t show the breakdown of the total fuel price. I have no doubt profit margins are higher probably to offset the impact/lost revenue of people moving to electric vehicles but I’d love to see the full breakdown of the costs as I bet the biggest part is still tax (I’d guess around 60-70%)

It really should be regulated like electricity. No need to regulate the whole market, I don’t care what snacks you sell along side fuel, but the fuel itself should be regulated.

Profit margins aren’t the problem. The duty our government slap on is why it’s still so expensive

Go on Google Maps and search for petrol. Scroll over to Belgium…oh look every single petrol price listed on the map.
The tech and the model exists to do this easily in the UK. Implementation would be quick.
But big oil will lobby for it to be as slow as possible. Every civil agency needs to do an impact report and have their snout in the trough…

Considering the price increases we’ve seen with everything else, fuel has been pretty consistant. It’s cheaper to buy a liter of petrol than a bottle of Heinz tomato sauce now.
