this is an article from 2022. It’s not uncommon to have repositioning flights due to cancellations and so on. I don’t see how this is relevant today.

This is an old article. This was due to Covid restrictions, and the regulations that if you didn’t fill your slots, you’d lose the rights to the routes.

These 3000 flights were part of the 18000 similar flights of Lufthansa group

Well this is pretty common in this economy. Every sector is faking work to keep the money rolling otherwise we’ll have an economic collapse.
