Honestly feels like mutual visa bans just punish regular people more than governments. One small step could be more EU, US public hearings on digital rights so this isn’t just diplomats yelling at each other.
So many condemnation but I have yet to see any direct action this year.
Ronald Reagan frequently used the phrase “shining city upon a hill” to describe America as a beacon of freedom, hope, and opportunity.
At this moment the US actively trying to oppose these same concepts. What sad times.
Whenever Trump says something, Europe assumes it’s another TACO and does nothing. Maybe taking action should be a New Year’s resolution.
Trump:
> The European Union was formed in order to screw the United States.
Allies you say? Hmm, the US needs to wake up and realize that the EU are no longer allies.
As if Breton not being able to visit the USA was some sort of horrific punishment lol.
The whole argument of the DSA was that the EU was perfectly within its rights to regulate foreigners. This is just the US doing the same w/r/t visas.
I’m more surprised he hasn’t been sanctioned, which could ruin his life, because of how personal Thierry has made these fights.
I don’t take a position, but I have some friends in DC who analogize the EU internet regulation to Hamas building bases under hospitals lol. The disinformation stuff is just a fig leaf for going after American companies, and they didn’t do any favors by hitting tech CEO’s *personally* with fines for businesses.
The USA is no longer Europe’s ally, they openly want it broken up and split between America and Russia. Heck Trump had been threatening war with Europe since before the last US election. Europe really needs to speed up the move away from the US, before it’s too late.
But will the EU respond in kind?
Of course not.
