      As soon as Algeria pays out reparations for centuries of slavery, the scale and sheer numbers with interest will probably amount to a few quadrillion euros.

      France should demand reparations from Algeria for the Barbary slaving raids that devastated its coast for centuries until they finally stopped it by conquering Algeria…

      Algeria needs to pay reparations to Iceland for the slavers who raided them years ago. Justice for Iceland!!

      False equivalences here. Doesn’t surprise me, since people here have a very western centric point of view. Yea corsary pirates were bad. But there’s a difference between raiding a place and invading and genociding and trying to make that place same as where you came from. Same people, same language, same culture. 

      French built cities using Arabs as slaves, only to be used by French settlers while genociding indigenous Arabs. For decades they repeated this bs: “Indivisible France, Algiers no different than Paris” 

      Out of the big 3 colonisers(UK, France, Spain), France was the most obsessed with assimilation, and a genocide was means to achieve that.

      The diplomatic affairs really went from bad to super bad between France and Algeria these past years… Russia’s influence might not be too far though and some French politicians didn’t help either…
