>While a distorted economy leads us to treat human beings as mere merchandise, God becomes like us, revealing the infinite dignity of every person. While humanity seeks to become “god” in order to dominate others, God chooses to become man in order to free us from every form of slavery. Will this love be enough to change our history?
>These words of Pope Benedict XVI remain a timely reminder that on earth, there is no room for God if there is no room for the human person. To refuse one is to refuse the other.

While I understand and agree with the Pope’s comment, it hasn’t been anything new. It has been going on for decades, and has/will continue to become worse. Nonetheless, the church (at least within the past 20 years or so) has also treated humans as “mere merchandise.” The amount of money the church(s) have dipped their fingers in when it was meant to go towards other things is unfathomable. Every time I’ve attended church, they come around with the basket for “church dues” and other monetary “donations.” It’s upsetting to know the “behind the scenes” of many churches & the greed, lies, and scandalous things that take place.
Please note that I am not talking about EVERY church, but in light of recent years, it jas been one too many.
I am no longer a practicing roman catholic, but to anyone reading this- please know there are many things you can do to practice your religion at home. For example, you do not need to confess your sins to the priest in order to reach God. You can do this in the comfort of your home and God will still receive your message. Say a few hail Mary’s & our father’s.
I hope this comment reaches the right people and in no way was it meant to offend anyone. It was just my personal take on the Pope’s comment.
Ok sell some Vatican assets to help the poor and lead by example
Basically the “safe” diplo-speech that seem to criticize something but carefully engineered to not offend any particular party.
Overall, focusing on money/wealth (that we invented, and doesn’t really exist) instead of reality (that we didn’t invent and that does) is usually not a good thing.
Money should be used to enable trade, not to enforce destructive ideologies.
”Human Resources”
Not a fan of RCC but it is refreshing to hear this.
Yeah, US mega churches making a circus out of Christmas for example is crazy. Bet he can’t do anything about it, right?
Money is being vacuumed up by the few.
Queue maga Christian’s – “he lost the vote! Stollen!”
Says leader of one of the richest churches in the world while wearing gold threaded robes.
The Church offered faith, charity and hope back then when everyone was a serf tied to a farm and there wasn’t an economy.
Faith, because life was fucking miserable.
Charity, because everyone was fucking poor.
Hope, because they couldn’t find it in real life.
This distorted economy made life bearable, brought us riches and prospects for the first time in human history.
And so he hates that.
Turn grappa into wine!
These guys live at the top of a hierarchy. They are part of the distortion. They are part of the problem. He’s not wrong, it’s just that these statements have no teeth. Meaningless pandering to the poors.
