      I am honestly surprised, I expected more F35s.

      The missiles are because the EU doesn’t have anything to substitute the US air to air missile for the F35 yet. UK and Italy are working on getting the meteor made operational for the F35.

      It is part of the long term strategy of surveillance of the GIUK gap (Greenland, Iceland, UK). Where it the other nations also work with this plane and given Denmark originally wanted to rent itself in with the Norwegian P8 Poseidon planes it looks like this was the favorite plane for a long time to run submarine detection, idk why it haven’t changed because of Trump or which EU alternatives there are and how they are in comparison. Whether US will use this against Denmark is questionable, but making them not viable to work will open the Atlantic for Russian nuclear submarines.

      Personally I could have hoped they would have gone to Swedish Saab for a plane.

      People need to realise how military procurement works. I’m sure the danish are moving over to EU made stuff but gaps need to be filled now and this has probably been long in the works. Governments are less stupid than you think. Behind every decision is a million factors no one on here has access to knowing.

      No alternatives with aerial refueling. Much greater endurance. Greenland is very far from Denmark.

      This was already explained and it was pretty straightforward for the p-8.

      F-35 is for sure more sketchy to buy more of it for Denmark.

      I really don’t know which of these self-evident contradictory truths is, you know, true. Guess I just don’t understand the arms industry.

      the spinelessness of the danish parlament is quite something… Whenever our politicians are asked about the quite blatant agressiveness of the US against us, our goverment keeps saying that, “The US is our biggest and best ally”.. The common hope is, that when Trump goesd, everything will go back to how it was.. The dillusion of our politicians is… something else. We still keep bying US equipment for our military, not even looking into alternatives to, f.ex the F-35

      Yes this is pretty stupid of us, but our MoD has said they prioritise speed of delivery for the equipment and since no European alternative exists… well here we are.

      But to be fair here are our list of other purchases this year:
