It is.
500 metre short walk in any direction and you’ll find a more enjoyable pub experience.
I vaguely remember when it’s was artsy and cool and still of cultural stuff, first generation of hipsters running quirky retail and restaurants…
Whatever it is or isn’t, it’s not a patch on what it used to be; I miss the period when it was a bit more authentically “off the beaten track”, a properly vibrant place & hipster before the term itself became a bit commodified – if it ever existed & it’s not my nostalgia talking.
I think it’s a bit underappreciated.
You can go there on a Monday or Tuesday in January and it’ll be lively and good craic.
There’s very few cities in the world with that. Pretty much 364 days of the year and it’s got a good crowd, music, lively, good energy.
It’s obviously overpriced but you can just limit yourself to 2 or 3 drinks so it’s ok.
It’s also interesting to meet people from other countries.
Don’t think it’s as heavily stag and hen do’s as it was in the late 90s and 2000s. Just a pure tourist trap nowadays but it still has plenty of cultural options and decent restaurants. Just avoid the pubs, enjoy a bit of culture and go to another pub outside of Temple Bar.
Anyone who thinks it’s been any different in the past 30 years is looking through rose tinted glasses
If you’re a visitor to Dublin looking for decent Irish music on a Tuesday in March, here’s where you go. It has it’s place I say.
It’s the last place in the city I’d drink, I’m not paying what they charge either. What am I getting extra more gowls and overcrowding?
It’s gas that they think that’s their problem with their reputation, and not the fact that they’re known internationally to be a complete rip-off
Was out there for the first time in a long time for a Christmas Party, i I have never seen anything so tourist oriented as temple bar in 2025. I guess they keep lapping it up though
It has the reputation it has earned.
Living in Dublin for 2 years now. I’m not in TB often, who other than tourists is? But I never feld more unsafe than in any other part of the city
Honourable mention for the two lads from Arthur’s Day.
Twanger and Twang-ee.
I mean… it *is* a hen party hellscape and anyone with eyes and ears can see that.
Temple bar is a tourist trap shit hole that robs people blind no one should go near it
I could claim that I’m not a fat cunt but it doesn’t make it true.
Ah it is yeah.
For anyone who is in their 40s or 50s it used to be a cool, hippie student kind of area with cheap 2nd hand shops. It became cool, and the tourists came in and prices shot up.
Temple Bar is more than just pubs and I think it has an unfair reputation based on that.
The IFI is one of my favourite cinemas and the Ark have some lovely things on for young kids. There are some decent coffee shops and some of the smaller shops are well worth a look.
You can find some great pub experiences within the temple bar area.
