  1. How about Ireland stops being a tax haven for US corporations instead?

I simply won’t use sites that require ID verification, reddit included. this nothing but a mass surveillance scheme.

Of course it would be someone from that god-forsaken, anti-freedom, censor hell that is that archipelago.

    > However, Harris believes there is growing political backing across Europe, pointing to signals of support from French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

So the extremely pro-Chat Control fascists/authoritarians want to team up with those sympathetic to their attacks on privacy, to end privacy in the EU. And why does the UK’s opinion even matter here?

    > Media Minister Patrick O’Donovan is expected to bring forward detailed proposals during the presidency.

They’re gearing up for another massive attack on privacy, having learned nothing from all the Chat Control backlash.

So basically EU wants to turn anonymous internet stranger into verified internet cousin.

Russia and China: ow sht we’re screwed. No longer fake Ukraine accounts.

  8. What a mashup of reasons for more regulation and more bureaucracy. Far right, protecting kids and of course the infamous bots. Saving democracy no less. Like it’s going to solve any of the problems.

People have no problems letting their kids leave the apartment to the street where so much bad stuff can happen and they train their kids to be prepared for the harsh environment. Yet accessing Internet supposed to be sterile.

The internet is catching up with literally everything else. It took a while

Ireland can suck my dick. Go do something useful, like stop being the tax haven for companies operating in the EU instead trying to demolish privacy in Europe.

Is this true though? I’ve googled it and only see far right sources claiming this.

I actually support the idea though I think the implementation needs work.

We shouldn’t need to display our real name on social media but when creating the account they should be verified. Kind of how South Korean gaming system works. It introduces a measure of accountability for ones actions. It will allow us to have an open discussions on the internet which right now are unfortunately dominated by bots.

People will complain about bots destabilising our countries and influencing our elections. And then complain about any measure aiming at curbing it.

It’s like complaining about the number of deaths on the road but being against driving licenses “because freedom.” . At some point, we will need to make concessions if we want to control abuses.

I don’t get this negative mindset.

Seriously: How do we fight against bots and troll farm if we reject any attempt at regulation? Is this measure truly worse than ending with the Front National and the AfD in power in 3-5 years?

And if yes, what are the alternatives?
