3 gennaio 1521. Martin Lutero fu scomunicato per essersi rifiutato di ritrattare scritti che sfidavano l’autorità papale. La sua sfida scatenò la Riforma protestante, fratturando il cristianesimo europeo in rami cattolico e protestante.

On 3 January 1521, Pope Leo X formally excommunicated Martin Luther, severing him from the Catholic Church and hardening what had begun as a theological protest into a continental crisis. Luther’s central objection was the sale of indulgences , that is church-sanctioned reductions of punishment for sin, widely marketed as a way to shorten time in purgatory for oneself or even dead relatives. To Luther, this reduced repentance and salvation to a financial transaction and contradicted his belief that faith alone, not payment or clerical mediation, brought salvation. Thanks to the printing press, his ideas spread rapidly, weakening papal authority, empowering rulers to break with Rome, and accelerating a religious and political split that would reshape Europe for centuries.
Tbh this is all God’s fault, after all God created the human mind as it is and God created language, and the problem is language is merely symbolic which means it requires interpretation. But that act of interpretation is fundamentally between the mind of the individual and the symbols (aka the words). Thus it seems inevitable that magisteriums monopoly on interpretation would get broken,
The original Brexiteer
To be honest, quite much of his ideas were revolutionary at that time. He didn’t like what the papal authority was doing, limiting self studying to common people. He made it possible that even commoners could study the scriptures themselves without fancy words no one understands.
30 years of WAR + massive migration to the USA !
Based Luther
Turns out, they were both wrong!
There was no God!
“european christianity”?
*sad orthodox noises*
Bastard.
The original Christianity was born in Anatolia Syria … But somehow they ( Assyrian Armenians orthodox…) were forgotten or rejected or even killed by the West then the West couldn’t agree about formalities and killed each other. Still wondering while East could have found the peace, why couldn’t the west find it !!!
