  1. Abduction may work as well… some may say unplanned holiday… though probably pre-agreed trip ahead of cosy retirement is the ultimate truth

I genuinely don’t know why anyone pays for a tv license. How much is it 180??? That’s more than apple tv lol and they spent how many billions last year???

Come on team, you are smarter than this.

  3. NoSwordfish1978 on

Maybe call it a “special military operation” or an “unauthorised detention” instead.

  4. kremdelakrey on

call it what you want but the majority of venezuelans are happy he’s gone

‘Reverse Deportation’ is the phrase they were looking for

Just spam them with complaints. Donald Trump, the evil sack of shit, is suing them for £Billions, and all they want to do is get on their knees and provide him lip service.

  7. Agreeable_Falcon1044 on

I wonder what they will call an attack on a NATO nation and an annexation of Greenland that will be happening this spring?

Considering they spent the past decade telling me Russian ships near Sweden or Russian planes near Poland was an afront

  8. CucumberWisdom on

I mean he’s not a kid now is he? Kidnapping makes it sound so informal and childish. Abduction works much better

  9. Commercial-Pear-543 on

So it’s a spontaneous excursion (consent not required).

I’m well aware the guy is not good, but this is silly. Let’s call it what it is.

The Yanks already have a name for this. Extrajudicial Rendition

  11. MDFHASDIED on

Fucking hilarious how a company called BBC hasn’t got any bollocks.

I mean it was a bit of a crazy operation but I won’t cry over a brutal butcher like Maduro. I suppose sometimes the ends justify the means.

No other big outlet has used the term outside of quotations.

This is absolutely being used by people who have an axe to grind.

  14. justeUnMec on

This is hilarious coming from an Iranian state propoganda channel PressTV. Again, there is not a “bar”; BBC editorial recommend avoiding that word as part of editorial guidance in favour of “siezed” and also not using the word “captured” except when quoting the US and making clear it is a quote/US claim.

  15. Resident-Kiwi-7363 on

I think with example of using phrases like “pregnant people”, this should be called involuntary immigration

  16. CatchRevolutionary65 on

Ah, the famous left-wing bias of the BBC kicking straight into effect

  17. woahdudee2a on

but this sub told me BBC is envy of the world when it comes to editorial independence

  18. Hollywood-is-DOA on

Trump knew what he was doing when he sued the BBC and anyone who goes against him, as he can technically do what he wants, without the news organisation reporting on it. Well they can’t in a proper manner.

  19. Evening-Cold-4547 on

Fine, “illegally abducted”. One step closer to hitting that word count.

If you could click your fingers and have this have happened to Hitler before he did what he did, despite an international law, would you click?

I see the celebrations of every Venezuelan who has endured his dictatorship. The only people that appear offended are white people who love a bit of flag waving on Facebook.

And yeah, I am aware that if oil did not exist, there would be no interest in changing the regime. The nations rejoice is just one of many by-products of oil.

  21. OverTheCandlestik on

When Trump eventually invades and takes over Greenland for its “minerals” the BBC will call it “a minor change in political leadership”

  22. Imaginary-Friend-228 on

“we need the TV license structure to keep the bbc independent” lmao

  23. PriorPlatypusPal on

R United Kingdom users using Iranian state press websites banned across much of Europe for egregious abuse of broadcasting laws.

    That fits.

Can we not just accept that yoinked is the superior and most accurate term

Maduro is enjoying a political holiday at a 5 star facility

  26. Few-Improvement-5655 on

This keeps getting reposted every few minutes. Bot action and activists not understanding impartiality or editorial rules that the BBC abides by.

  27. JeffSergeant on

They’re using ‘capture’ because it’s neutral. Arrest is barred too, because that implies this is completely legal, which they also cannot say while remaining neutral.

  28. Background-Gas8109 on

If not kidnapping what else is it? Forceful removal?

As the tabloids and right wing press constantly come for the beeb how tf do they keep undermining their own credibility. I get that they want to take a stance that isn’t in opposition to the govt, but it’s certainly hard to defend someone if they keep punching themselves in the face

  32. tykeoldboy on

When is a kidnapping not a kidnapping?

When it is reported on by the BBC

  33. Far-Ad9043 on

The bbc bosses are just scared that the US will put sanctions against the author like they did with the eu judges.

  34. philelope on

How about: “Maduro has illegally immigrated into the USA?” As I imagine he doesn’t have a VISA.
Scenes when the courtroom is disrupted as ICE storm in and immediately deport him back to Venezuela.
