  1. Again not even a mention of America or Trump. Is Greenland threatening to invade itself?

  2. Illustrious-Hotel345 on

    > We will continue to monitor the situation

    👌🏻

  3. Baggersaga23 on

Who cares what Ireland thinks on any of these matters. It’s a price for being neutral. stfu. We are an irrelevance

  4. >We will continue to monitor the situation

This will trigger the perpetually outraged

  5. drkamikaze1 on

All these words to say nothing.
Realistically Ireland won’t do anything anyway, even if US annexed Greenland. We are too dependant on the US and multinationals.

This is my favourite kind of government announcement. Ukraine, Venezuela etc.

    *Obviously bad thing happens*
Irish government: “like everyone else has already said, this is bad”

Like I understand the need, because if the state doesn’t comment it will look like an endorsement, but it’s still very silly.

  7. Cfunicornhere on

Yeh but they’ll still do what every the f they want and won’t be held accountable. This shit is lip service

  8. Azzaramad on

But Venezuela can go fuck itself aye? Where is the soverign international law there?

  9. MysteriousChef6988 on

Trump must truly be terrified now that Helen is on the case

  10. followerofEnki96 on

It’s scary how much Trump can do without even talking too much to the congress and senate. Goes to show how much the US actually resembles and XVIII century constitutional monarchy. The other presidents were simply taking it easy.

  11. Shot_Sport200 on

If this shit kicks off we close Shannon airport right?……right?…

  12. SimilarStock8008 on

We live in really strange times. Will it ever abate or is this just the way of the world going forward now? Are republicans going to run on a mandate over annexing countries going forward?

  13. One-Committee3913 on

Monitoring the situation. So weak. Better off just saying nothing at all

  14. AluminiumCrackers on

Trump could have just as easily decided Ireland was strategically important to the USA. He still might. Appeasing him is not the way.

Stellar work from the Minister in this ministerial role as well.

  16. whooo_me on

Well, I hope if anyone ever attacks Ireland, there’s some good brave souls out there to…. monitor the situation.

  17. NocturneFogg on

The late Sir Humphrey Appleby would be impressed. So many words, so little said.

  18. UselessMongo on

Phew. At least this was a measured response and there was no mention of Eurovision.

  19. Snoo-86513 on

International law is firmly in the toilet at this stage. Maybe it always was. Let’s face it might is right is the only true concept in situations like this.

I would have preferred if she had of done one of those “come out and fight me shiteinabucket” kinda diss vids,,,

but I suppose we haven’t stooped to America’s level yet.

  21. teebu_blazing on

Appeasement didn’t work before the last one.

In response Europe should be taking a financial nuke approach, nationalize key strategic companies such as American pharma and companies of strategic value like Intel.

  22. adinis78 on

“Continue to monitor the situation” that’s pretty much the stand from EU countries when it comes to the stupidity of Trump and US. Why not grow some balls and do something about it 🤦‍♂️

  23. Diddly_eyed_Dipshite on

Oh thank God!! For a second there I was worried they weren’t going to continue to monitor the situation, but at least now we can relax and be proud of our proactive government

  24. MemestNotTeen on

I think it’s time we move McEntee to minister for literally anything else if we are about to enter tremulous times

  25. TheMadEscapist on

Every day I can’t decide who I hate more. Trump or the dumbass who missed.

  26. hullowurld91 on

Who had “we will continue to monitor the situation” on their bullshit political statements bingo card?

  27. Lazy_Fall_6 on

    Focussed. Focused?
    Both seemingly grammatically correct!

  28. DeputyStag on

I would much rather see them left-justify the text. The uneven word spacing does nothing for me.

  29. TypicallyThomas on

I remember some right winger from the States yelling at me in 2016, saying these drastic scenarios would never happen because there’s checks and balances. “He couldn’t do anything like that”. Wonder what that guy would say now
