European car parts suppliers have announced more than 100,000 job losses in the past two years as they suffer from low demand for vehicles and fierce competition from Chinese rivals.
Figures compiled by European trade body Clepa and shared with the FT show that parts suppliers announced 50,000 job losses in 2025, following 54,000 in 2024, in a sign of continued distress for the struggling sector.
Have they tried making competitive modern affordable cars instead of Golf XVII that is same as Golf XVI?

Good. That means we germans can’t pay for the EU anymore. Good luck finding another sponsor.

Car parts suppliers aren’t car manufacturers, why are people asking to make different models?
It’s just a function of high labor cost, declining sales and declining motivation to keep old cars on the road – not only there are fewer DIY mechanics, there are less repair shops as well. It becomes too expensive for most people.

Wow shocker. The richest continent on earth is too rich to make simple EVs.
Wow shocker that the only thing that kept Europe relevant in the sector was the complicated mass producing of modern ICE engines.
Without the complexity of an ICE engine, we have no comparative advantage..
I saw the writing on the wall 10 years ago. How could Europes best experts have not seen it?

Why on earth did you overdo the switch to electric cars? Because of electric cars, Chinese automakers have grown ridiculously

VW now costs nearly the same as a BMW. AMG and M will have no meaning once any EV will able to do a 0-100 in <4s.
They shot themselves in their own foots. Once ICE dies the European car manufacturers will follow. Good riddance to be honest.
