If Greenland joins the EU, it would be the only time that a member has left and rejoined.

The EU should definitely do more and act decisively but handing membership and thus the veto to 50 000 people just does not make much sense. Otherwise I suggest we just give the veto twice over to my smallish hometown. We urgently need a new treaty to rework the design of the veto.

And this article is buying in to the American narrative. Greenland is a part of Denmark, any proposal from the US is a non-starter. We could just as well suggest that California become a part of France.

Pff just not accepting no for an answer is he.

Just what is in the Epstein files?, by now It must be hunting underaged heroin addicted orphaned puppies for sport with a flamethrower levels of bad.

I don’t know how it works when an autonomous territory wants to join, but I assume that they can be grandfathered into the EU through Denmark any time they like?

Please do it as soon as possible! EU countries need to stick together against American, Russian and Chinese imperialism.

How would that change anything? If NATO isn’t gonna dissuade Trump, why would a EU membership?

Sounds a bit stupid – wouldn’t that “force” Trump to either act now or later call the bluff? Nobody is going to eat with the US over Greenland!

The problem is like always… trump could do it tomorrow if he wants to, because he doesn’t follow any laws. EU would need months to offer Greenland membership.

Unless Congress gets behind it Trump cannot take Greenland.

    He didn’t take Venezuela either.

    He kidnaped a dictator.

    The rethoric isn’t what’s happening.

And they will drag their feet with that shit for at least 25 years

  11. As much as I would like to see Greenland in the EU, the Greenlanders would need to vote on it and its membership would simply be that of Denmark’s, as no autonomous territories can be members in their own right. Such individual Greenlandic membership would require unanimous agreement on changing the EU’s charters.

  12. Will mister Bones Spurs do it himself, or does he need the US military? It remains to be seen if enough them will follow potential Greenland invasion orders from Trump.

  13. CarefulEmphasis5464 on

Nonsense. Membership is based on alignment. It can’t be given, it can only be approved

  14. Yeah, I suggested this here the day before it appeared on The Guardian.

It’s being suggested for two reasons:

    A. Even with an impending annexation, the Greenlanders appear to support indepence by a large majority.

    B. Nobody outside of Denmark, I mean **nobody**, understands Denmark’s strategy here. So seeing Greenland about to be grabbed and Denmark playing virtue cards that are useless in this game, some people that understand the situation and that it would be nefarious for Europe to let this happen are trying to help.

    That’s all.
