Sento che è un evento di confine per la percezione della Polonia a ovest. Prima di allora, la Polonia era ancora considerata una merda post-comunista con gente che mangiava orsi polari, soprattutto se ricordate l’opinione stupida di Sol Campbell riguardo "ritorno nella bara"
Invece gli occidentali hanno iniziato a vedere la Polonia come un paese in via di sviluppo, con gente normale e affascinante, e con un enorme potenziale turistico, culturale ed economico (soprattutto dopo aver schivato i proiettili della grande recessione del 2008). Ad oggi la percezione della Polonia sembra essere sempre migliore, cosa che viene tristemente utilizzata dagli idioti di estrema destra, che spingono la narrazione russa sulla caduta dell’Europa e "bianco" Polonia

Interesting take, as a Pole I’d never say Euro 2012 was a border event. For me it was definitely joining the EU and later the Schengen area. That’s when the changes started to happen and we began “westernizing” in my opinion.
It was for sports fans and many business owners, but nowhere near joining the UE in terms of growth of Poland as a world’s important economy. We owe much of what we have now not only because of subsidies, but also because it was easier for people to experience the west.
