In other words, the Russians want every non-Russian on whom they’ve cast their rарeу gaze to take the example of their national hero, [Alexander Nevsky](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Nevsky).

One of Nevsky’s two claims* to fame is that as Alexander of Novgorod he “saved” the Russians’ sordid ancestors in the northern fringes of Kyivan Rus’ by surrendering to the invading Моngоlѕ in 1239 *without firing a shot*. He did this in contrast to his relatives who were ruling and defending the other principalities to the south and east but whom the Asian invaders decisively defeated in the process.

In exchange for his cuckoldry and treason, the Моngоlѕ spared Alexander and his minions in Novgorod, allowed them to remain Orthodox ^([not that this was a real concession from the pagan Моngоlѕ since with a rather enlightened mindset they didn’t regard foreigners’ spirituality as an existential threat in the first place]), and made him and his rotten descendants the chief enforcers and tax-collectors on the sitting khan’s behalf. This arrangement lasted for almost 300 years and was punctuated in 1263 by the Моngоlѕ approving a carve-out in the swamps of far southwestern Vladimir-Suzdal’ to be known as “[Muscovy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Prince_of_Moscow#History)” so that Alexander’s youngest son, [Daniil](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_of_Moscow), would inherit some land.

To anyone else, Alexander would be looked upon as a medieval prototype for Vidkun Quisling, Philippe Pétain or just a run-of-the-mill [kаро](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kapo).

Not so among the Muscovites and their direct descendants, the Russians.

It’s telling that their unforgivable servility, self-righteous warmongering, smart-аѕѕеd selfishness, learned helplessness, and veneration of despotic [kratocracy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Might_makes_right) (i.e. “might makes right”) has such an “illustrious” example from the distant past whom they’ve perversely canonized and venerated.

    * ^(Alexander’s second claim to fame is that he led his oh-so-pious Orthodox minions westward to victory against the apostate Catholics from Europe. He did so first against Swedes and Finns in 1240 at the) [^(Battle of the Neva River)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Neva) ^(- whence “Nevsky” – and then against the knights of the Livonian Order – a branch of the Teutonic Knights – in 1242 at the) [^(Battle on the Ice)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_on_the_Ice)^(. In both cases, he obviously benefited from a secure rear after having chosen to be the Моngоlѕ’ bіtсh.)

^(In the bigger picture, these victories became keys to the Russians’ social acceptance of cruelty, warlike identity, anti-European mindset, and self-righteousness as “true” [Orthodox] Christians since the narrative has it that Nevsky decisively beat back those deranged Catholic schismatics from Europe – but let’s just ignore that he had first willingly spread his unwashed cheeks for a horde of pagan nomads from Asia, shall we?)
