Man, none of this would’ve happened if the EU didn’t botch the refugee crisis as hard as it did.
Social media has instilled in a part of Europeans a condescending attitude toward democracy and the life they have, treating it as something given, as a default that will always exist. That’s why I’m not surprised they go and vote for any populist bullshit.
That’s a lot of words to say “fascist”.
Depressing really. Chega is even more upfront with their racism than most other far-right parties. They literally have big billboards saying “This is not Bangladesh” and “Gypsies have to follow the law”. There’s a video of a Chega deputy in the balcony of the Assembleia da República looking at an immigrant protest and saying that it stinks of curry, and when they left he made a tiktok saying now everyone can order Uber Eats again. Among a million other things like calling a blind deputy a freak (“aberração”) while she was talking in parliament or making cow noises while another one was also speaking. These guys are absolutely disgusting
So they call the modest conservative party with a strong stance on immigration and law enforcement “hard right”, but the leading party which is openly socialist is not “far left”? What’s with this weaponization of terminology? The Chega party may have its faults, but I’ll take them over a socialist any time.
Good!
Surprised pickachu face
Nothing to do with refugees. Capitalism ultimately leads to Fascism.
As an American, something I don’t understand is how the Far Right weren’t able to take control during the refugee crisis but are able to now . Radical Islamic terrorism is currently in single digits in Europe and America .
