*There is now a great deal of work ahead. It’s not just about building up a massive, 100,000-strong military force (a proposal made last week by EU Commissioner for Defense Andrius Kubilius – ed.), though that certainly must be done. In order for Europe to be autonomous and independent, we need major reforms within the European Union itself.*

*Perhaps the first thing we would need is a security council where these issues are discussed on an ongoing basis, similar to the National Security Council in the United States where experts stay continuously informed.*

*But more broadly, we need to carry out far more significant reforms. Let’s say that our first steps have now been taken with the loan proposed for weapons purchases. That’s welcome, but we still need to address the structural deficiencies within the European Union.*

*First among these would be a unified, integrated capital market, which would allow us to attract far more investment.*

*Second, we need to overcome resistance to joint borrowing.*

Joint borrowing also accelerates federalisation. It’s how states are formed.

Harsh truth, but accurate Europe can’t rely on old frameworks in a world that’s clearly moved on.

Honestly yeah, he is not wrong. Europe kinda slept on defense for decades and now the bill is due. You cant just vibe on peace dividends forever and hope the world stays chill. It sucks but reality hit hard after Ukraine.

  4. This is why he joined the Volt political party, which is active throughout Europe for exactly this purpose.

100%, but who’s going to convince the lazy politicians who are too afraid of change

  6. Give the European people alternatives and boycott them. Make them feel it in their pockets.

Every European leader knows this. The problem is that they all have their own ideas and interests. It could take a while and we might be too late in the end…

We need drones, artillery, anti-personal-mines and we should quit the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.
