We are the only common law jurisdiction in the EU now. Our system is pretty different to everyone else’s.

Comparing apples and oranges. We have a totally different legal system to the rest of the EU. We could have quicker decisions too if we totally abandoned fair procedures. The common law system is just about the only good thing we got off the brits and is a big part of why we have so much FDI. I wouldn’t change it for the world

Why do we still have Barristers. The yanks use common law and they do not use them. Just do away with them and let solicitors do that job.

    > Ireland has the lowest number of judges per 100,000 people compared with other European countries.

Quote apart from our legal system, the fact is we spend too little and have two few judges (and too few types of judges).

    >The Republic’s €38.23 per capita spend on the courts is 25 per cent less than the €50.70 European average and **it has the lowest number of judges per 100,000 population of the 46 Council of Europe states**, the report noted.

Often when new judges are hired you end up reading stories about how much they are paid and the total cost. I genuinely think it dissuades government from investing in growing the size of the judiciary.
