      Driving is a privilege, not a right. This man drove so carelessly that he hit someone, killing them. To make it worse, he then fled the scene. He should never be allowed to drive again

      Also, 20 months for essentially manslaughter? Oh yeah, it was with a car, so I guess it isn’t as important..

      Im no lawyer, but it seems like if you plead guilty then things tend to be way less punitive. WHich makes a lot of sense in some ways, but perhaps the prospective punishment bar should be higher?

      He was free before that lads friends were even starting 5th year.

      Tons of previous convictions and actually didn’t serve a day for this specific act because he was serving a sentence for another crime:

      The judge noted a submission made by the Director of Public Prosecutions that the disqualification was the only penalty, as Tracey was serving another sentence at the time of his 20-month sentence.

      Fucking piece of trash. There is rarely any justice for victims, it’s always about the perpetrators. If we’re all rightly outraged how must the family feel

      I grew up near this scumbag and distinctly remember the fear of seeing him ‘*oh fuck, cross the road, here’s Rua*’ .. when I heard he was involved in a hit and run that killed a child, and he fled the scene, i wasn’t one bit surprised. I’m confident this is not the last time we will see him in the crime-headlines…

      No licence, no insurance, driving to buy heroine with 54 previous convictions in the bank. Whoever let him out after the first 10 of those convictions is responsible for that kids death.

      He has no previous disqualification because he didn’t have a licence when he killed that kid. Surely that’s grounds for making him be unable to use that “loophole”

      It was a 20 year driving ban and of which he will serve about 13 years. He has had no convictions in 8 years. Yes, what he did was terrible but he seems to have kept out of trouble and there has to be some light at the end of the tunnel for offenders who make efforts to turn away from their offending ways.

      Less than 2 years for killing someone recklessly on the roads. No wonder there are large areas of this country who do what they want and when they want.

      If you want to kill somebody in Ireland and get a slap on the wrist then just do it with a car.

      Thats the message that its clear as day from every court in Ireland.

      I would think any party that comes out tough on crime in the next election would do quite well. I’m surprised it hasn’t happened yet TBH.
