The real lesson McFadden imparts, is ‘don’t get sick, or we will throw the full might of the government behind making your life shit and miserable.’ What heinous people he and Timms truly are.
Who does Labour think they are winning over by doing stuff like this?
They do realise that they are completely alienating their voter base, right?
Mandelson’s protege is a cunt. Who would ever have believed that!?
He was on before at a shipyard and was worming around over whether he was personally pissed off with Mandy, and twisted the framing to say the party are unhappy with Mandy. Another complete shithead on the Labour front benches. I made a massive mistake voting for this lot.
The article doesn’t quote what he said at all and misleadingly connects the quote from the report to the cut mentioned.
Worse, it doesn’t mention that UC will be uplifted in real terms. Somebody please correct me if I’m wrong, but my reading of section 4 is that this change couldn’t possibly reduce the amount any claimant would get such that they’d be £50 or any amount worse off after all the changes (edit: see below).
Happy to be shown to be wrong, but I believe this article is very misleading. [Edit:I am totally wrong, the article is at most somewhat misleading as to the context of its quotes, the actual cut is accurately described]
Edit 2: The section mentioned above only protects entitlements for specific claimants (pre 2026 or having severe conditions or being terminally ill). A new claimant after 2025 who doesn’t have a severe condition or is terminally ill would see a reduction.
Edit: link to relevant legislation (https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2025/22#section-4-2)
Changed “subsection” to “section” in para 2
They’re a reprehensible bunch of ghouls. I’m embarrassed that I voted for them. I’m hoping Starmer is replaced because of the Mandelson fiasco. I’m disgusted by them, kicking the most vulnerable members of society to appease reform voters.
I’ve become convinced that they truly wanted to get in power, found out just how fucked the country is, and are now doing everything they can to make sure they’re not voted back in.
From that OSA, to the Home Secretary wanting “the eyes of the state to be on you at all times” to attacks on the disabled and unrealistic expectations for those unemployed, and sucking up to Trump. These are not the actions and policies you would traditionally associate with the Labour Party. In many ways they go further and deeper than the Conservative Party’s policies. …..Its almost a suicidal “please don’t vote us in again” approach.
Then, in a few years time, the government (whichever party it is) will have to spend more than it is saving through this to help the disabled people living in the poverty caused by this measure. Those savings become temporary and all it does is punish those already suffering the most in society. When we are all just one accident away from being disabled, we really should not be so quick to take away their safety net.
