È assolutamente straordinario ciò che questo atleta svizzero è riuscito a ottenere con il Bayer Leverkusen, giocando un ruolo cruciale nel diventare la prima squadra a completare una stagione della Bundesliga imbattuta. Storico per non dire altro. Ma dov’è la copertura mediatica nazionale su di lui? Dov’è la sensazione, la storia di questo svizzero del momento? Cito: “Il pubblico litiga con i tifosi, una serie di cartellini rossi dallo spericolato al ridicolo. Ma sotto tutta questa spavalderia c’è un giocatore che voleva prendere la palla e creare”. Mi chiedo: e se a chi controlla i media svizzeri non piacesse che Granit Xhaka rappresentasse la Svizzera a causa del suo background culturale? E se si chiamasse Remo Gabathuler, nato e cresciuto a Sciaffusa, stessi problemi da ragazzaccio, cartellini rossi, litigi con i tifosi ecc. ma alla fine realizza quello che ha appena fatto Xhaka… Sarebbe stata la meravigliosa storia di Remo, un “Luusbueb” svizzero che ha raggiunto la grandezza con sacrificio, allenamento, impegno ecc. …ma no, il suo nome è Granit quindi in un certo senso rompe già quella swissness. I media svizzeri dell’IMO avrebbero potuto cambiare la sua immagine pubblica da cattivo a simbolo nazionale di resilienza, determinazione e forza di volontà.

pretty easy: individual glory isn‘t celebrated here culturally.
there are obviously people that don‘t like it that the best Swiss players have foreign backgrounds, but ehh. We just prefer to complain and demand more instead of celebrate what we have achieved.
