      > According to the company’s post on X, law enforcement said that they will return it to the service provider after they “fully analyze it.” It’s unclear why law enforcement impounded just a single rack from Windscribe’s cabinet, but the VPN provider said that it only uses RAM disk servers, meaning anyone who would look through the installed SSDs would only find a stock Ubuntu install on it, so the servers shouldn’t hold any trackable data.

It almost sounds like the Dutch authorities did this as an attempt to scare VPN providers like Windscribe, rather than to try and get anything useful.

The Dutch politicians perusing VPNs are like Derrick Zoolander stealing a computer to get the files inside.

Lawenforcement has capacity to seize electronics and keep it under power under transport, retaining all RAM memory contents.

    4. I just hope this turns into an interesting story Guido gets to tell at an event some years from now

My guess is that the vpn provider will also periodically switch the server on and off to wipe any residual memory.

The dutch govt are making themselves look like a laughing stock.

I dont know how you want to even defend such a seizure.

Getting a bit older, I found more and more distasteful to dabble with anonymity and tracelessness. There are major problems, from CP to drugs to government security. It’s uncool to offer traceless services.

    7. Maybe 🤔 they wanted the RAM taking into account current prices

A warrant is not always required under Dutch law. Art.94sv grants, under very strict conditions before, during and after the seizure, the authority to seize properties to secure evidence.

I guess they’ll need to get a Dutch lawyer, this can be valid but you can challenge immediately.

This is a threat to the freedom and liberties of US Europeans and there is crickets on this sub. Anything with Musk, Trump, Epstein etc. always upvoted to the cahoots, even when few comments. Bots and astroturfing is reddit now.

This reads like a paid ad for Windscribe using some unverified property seizure event to generate some fake news content.
