      Hasn’t ireland made up for that with the amount of Ukrainian people we’ve given asylum here?

      ukraine is luckly we took any people at all

      We have accommodated proportionally more Ukrainian visitors than most other EU countries though.

      There are lots of ways to help. There’s sending money, there:s sending weapons, and there’s providing refuge. We (19.1 per 1000) have taken a lot more refugees than Finland has (11 per 1000). Also higher than Lithuania,.Denmark, Sweden and lots of other EU countries.

      All of us are helping. Only when it’s presented like that would I take this kind of analysis seriously. It almost sounds like we are being guilt tripped by focus on sending money alone out of the full context.

      112k refugees & ~500million in aid.

      In the grand scheme of things, sure, that much in aid won’t last long, but we’ve accepted the 11th or 12th highest number of Ukrainian refugees, and only 2 or 3 of the countries ahead of us in total numbers have higher numbers per capita

      Could we give more, yes, and I’m sure we will before the war ends. But the framing of this article feels a bit unfair given the above context. Admittedly some countries like Estonia have both provided more aid and welcomed more refugees per capita than us, but we’re also limited in the aid department due to our lack of military production.

      Ah yes when we define the meaning of aid into a manner that makes Ireland look bad it makes Ireland look bad. Brilliant stuff.

      Countries closer to Russia have given more as they have more to lose. Nato spending is the same, the further away from Russia, the smaller percentage of defence spending. Wouldn’t the world be great if Russia just tried to sort their own country out instead of constantly trying to fuck with others?

      All other similar states are geographically much closer to Ukraine, have more invested risks and interest, and will also benefit more in the long term when Ukr the join the EU.

      Good. We shouldn’t be supporting the prolonging of violence that’s sending countless people from both sides to be slaughtered in a meat grinder. No more subsidising rich men sending poor men to their graves.

      We should be sending the ESB lads given Russia is targeting the power keeping Ukrainians warm ,I’m sure they’d like the rates.
