We’re already there. 2.9 million unemployed working aged people. 700,000 job vacancies and the number keeps dwindling down. Plus I have no idea if that number includes ghost job postings, which is supposed to be around 20-30% of all listings.

Tesco cuts 400 bakery jobs. Tesco cuts 150 warehouse jobs. Tesco cuts TWO THOUSAND JOBS …

Oh no, they tell ya, didn’t you notice how poor y’all getting? Why aren’t you doing something about it?!?

    Tesco Group Profit: £3.13 billion, a 10.6% increase from 2023  to 2024.
Retail Operating Profit: Increased 7.7% to £2.97 billion.
Tesco CEO pay package more than doubles to nearly £10 million ($12.6 million) as reward for the 2023/24 profits. Workers – ie, profit creators – received 3%.

All remaining employees are now doing twice to three times the work for the same pay.

Hanging is too good for this guy.

  3. This is what happens when the State ignores its responsibility and expects the market to take care of itself. Markets are now trying to leverage AI for efficiencies and we’re unprepared for it.

We’re sleepwalking into it because of greedy companies who want to automate everything.

But aren’t supermarkets like Tesco the ugly poster-child for joblessness? Replacing cashiers with self-service checkouts, not replacing staff who leave, making one person do the job of three and doing their damndest to avoid full time hours?

They just don’t seem like the ones who ought to be complaining here…

That ironic. Coming from the Tesco boss on c.£10m a year salary, the company having made £2bn profit in the latest tax year, yet has decided to cut hundreds of jobs anyway.

The boss of Tesco is a monumentally overpaid, supremely entitled, dishonest man.

Says boss who installed self-service tills that you have to use for a week’s shopping on a Friday night.

  8. Can Ashwin Prasad share the per-year numbers for Tesco staff leaving for chronic ill health. Specifically, leaving full-time for part time, or part time for probably no longer working. Is it a malaise for the whole country but not Tesco, or a **malaise Tesco too?**

I have a friend near Brighton and theres no jobs. It’s scary.

The bootlickers will blame immigrants, minimum wage being too high and not being able to legally own slaves than talk about the elephant in the room which is the ever widening gap between those at the top and everyone below them.

Companies can report record breaking profits and management will still call for layoffs so they can boast about “cutting costs” just to line their own pockets.

Well the big super market chains wouldn’t provide full time contracts for its staff .

  12. SharpieD85 on

That’s s bit rich coming from a Tesco big wig. Bloody hypocrite.

  13. J1mj0hns0n on

no, were actively walking away from the tilljockey bottom barrel type jobs. we dont want 2.9 million to be half part time zero hour contracts, that helps no one and makes everyone desperate. were expanding in really niche sectors all over the country and this will keep people employed in these new sectors.

These bastards keep slashing overtime while paying their staff a pittance so fuck them. So many Tesco’s staff are on Universal Credit because they pay so low. Shithouse company.

  15. Guilty-Raspberry2153 on

Yeah I’ve heard this too many places the economy , the factor of AI . all going to change in the next 5-10 years . If anyone’s scared just get on the AI train or you’ll probably be screwed . no idea why tesco is the one claiming this as it’s already replaced half its staff with computers 😂 same thing everywhere – even primark now . Good luck guys . Fight for your lives and get as much gold and silver as you can & a gun . Happy hunting peeps

Tesco will be a bit fucked when everyone is getting their food from the food bank eh. Maybe time to hire a few folk back, get the nightshift workers back on restocking shelves so daytime staff can work the tills and help customers. Just some ideas like.

  17. That’s a bit rich considering Tesco announced more job cuts not so long ago.

  18. Bobthebrain2 on

Maybe this twat should tell his rich CEO buddies to stop pushing Ai into every nook and cranny of business, and to stop offshoring jobs 🤷‍♂️

  19. Front-Tear-7467 on

Says the company actively pushing us to unmanned tills and online shopping….

  20. MediocreWitness726 on

Companies are cutting staff by either going for self check outs or other types of automation.
