You cannot disqualify a company from a European tender contract because they’re from another country. If it’s such a big deal, maybe the EU or the Dutch government should make laws. If NS did disqualify DXC then there would be lawsuits because it goes against the EU laws lol.

Not to defend NS, but read this first:

    >According to the spokesperson, the systems that the American company will manage are “not mission-critical” and do not process personnel or passenger data. **“Critical systems for train operations and information provision are housed with a Dutch IT provider.”**

So yes, NS is going to us an IT provider from the US, but the critical systems are still operated by a Dutch IT provider.

I guess we need to blame last few Dutch governments for cutting budget in public transport and thus also for NS (they 100% own them, but semi privatized). Now the consequence is NS had no choice but going for the cheapest option, which is that US company.

    >“We are aware that this concerns a subsidiary of an American company,” an NS spokesperson told NRC. “This is an issue that NS, like so many other (semi-)governmental organizations and services, is grappling with.”

    >According to the spokesperson, the systems that the American company will manage are “not mission-critical” and do not process personnel or passenger data. “Critical systems for train operations and information provision are housed with a Dutch IT provider.”

As long as the government uses Azure, Windows and Microsoft 365 I feel we have bigger fish to fry.
