**Poland will not join the U.S.-led Board of Peace under the current circumstances, but will continue to analyze the possibility, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Wednesday.**

“Taking into account certain national doubts regarding the shape of the board, under these circumstances Poland will not join the work of the Board of Peace, but we will analyze it,” Tusk, a centrist, told a government meeting.

[U.S. President Donald Trump](https://tvpworld.com/91169528/trumps-board-of-peace-tests-european-unity) initially proposed the international body as an oversight mechanism for peace in Gaza. It has since morphed into a potential rival to the United Nations, sparking concerns among many European countries invited to join.

Further anxiety was caused by Trump inviting the presidents of Russia and Belarus to serve on the board. Questions over the body’s mandate and composition led most European countries to decline to sign its founding charter in January.

Tusk emphasized on Wednesday that relations with the United States remain a priority for Polish foreign policy.

“So if circumstances change that allow participation in the work of this Board, we do not rule out any scenario,” he added.

    # Balancing act

With war raging in neighboring Ukraine, Warsaw – long fearful of an aggressive Moscow – looks to Washington as its key security guarantor.

But the Polish government has recently been at odds with the U.S. on some foreign policy issues, including Trump’s ambition to [take control of Greenland](https://tvpworld.com/91146471/tusk-warns-europe-that-appeasement-is-weakness).

That leaves Tusk’s government facing a balancing act, weighing its decisions carefully so that it doesn’t irk the Trump administration too much.

    # Poles unconvinced

A [survey published earlier](https://tvpworld.com/91357932/poland-less-than-25-support-joining-trumps-board-of-peace) this month found that less than a quarter of the Polish public supported their country joining the Board of Peace, with 42% opposed.

That was really good diplomatic move. Not sure how Trump will respond but that looks good to me.

In the meanwhile somewhere in US:
Trump – *For this you’ll get 25% tariffs on this and that!*
