That’s the first time I’ve screamed “LEON, NOOOOOOOOOO” this year. I assume it will happen again in a few weeks with RE9 coming out ennit

Looking forward to “dined there once, never again due to service/price/quality of food” comments.

Used to really like it pre-Covid, and then every experience of it post-lockdown had been terrible – food coming out cold, loads of items being unavailable, staff appearing to be stoned and just in another realm most of the time. Went from one of my favourite spots for a quick lunch to being the “fuck’s sake if that’s all there is” last resort option before catching a train.

I really like Leon. Yes it was pricey but sometimes you want to pay more for higher quality / freshness / health.

And before someone says there are other healthier but cheaper options – yeah but not always as convenient or as nice to actually eat. For central London their pricing wasn’t ridiculous.

They also did good coffee compared to Pret’s bitter slop.

I’mma go eat on my lonelies. I’m in Nandos with a veggie wrap. Or I’m sitting in Leon, munching a gobi.

  6. I hope they keep selling their chicken burgers and such that are sold in supermarkets, they do some of the best gluten free stuff around atm, if it is a little pricey,

The irish Leons all went out of business a couple of years ago

  8. Don’t worry, the people in the boardroom will remain protected, salary, expenses, bonuses will still be paid and if Leon does go out of business their golden parachute payments will keep them from applying for universal credit until they can find another company to run in to the ground.

  9. There is an interesting documentary on Youtube about the rise and fall of Leon. It was sold to the Issa brothers who also bought up Asda and loaded it with debt. They did all sorts of stupid things to a great business and now its ruined.

    Edit: here it is: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65sjz66jD8g](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65sjz66jD8g)

Loved their superfood salad but they stopped making it so I stopped going.

I think the original owner took it back from private equity after seeing they’d ruined it. Maybe they’ll get better?

Could have been something else but last time I ate at Leon, I almost shat myself an hour later.

Shame, as their food is decent but I think they just can’t compete with the likes of McDonald’s, KFC, Burger King etc…

Ah bummer! It’s my go on when I am waiting for my train at King Cross

What? I’ve never heard even one mention of this place in my life, so I guess it’s pretty obvious why they went bankrupt.

I used to eat there quite regularly but noticed it started getting shit. Didn’t even know it was bought out by private equity so I feel kind of relieved knowing it wasn’t just my imagination. They really did just drive it in to the ground

Man, that pre to post-Covid shift hits hard. It really did feel like the quality and consistency just fell off a cliff. It’s a shame to see a place go from a go-to to a ghost town, especially with so many jobs on the line. The high street just keeps taking these hits.

I went recently and found out they’d got rid of all the rice boxes from the menu. Such a shame as they were the only items I bought. I guess they’ve permanently lost a customer there but it’s clearly the plan of the new (old) owner

  18. Dark_Akarin on

I’ve never even heard of Leon, are they common in London or something?

  19. Quality had definitely dropped lately, but I’m still surprised. I wonder if they just didn’t update their menu enough, if a lot of good staff moved on, or if this is just one of those situations where their supply chain or rents or something else behind the scenes wasn’t in good shape.

I’m surprised it last this long. The portions were a joke. I recall ordering something described as a meal and it was three spoonfuls of rice and a tiny bit of chicken. Good riddance to the rip off shop.

    Crazy things going under

But a real sign of the times

It wasn’t cheap but it was a genuine alternative to BK / KFC, McD

  22. Flat_Revolution5130 on

I had 0 idea they even existed. I have never even seen one,So they must be small.

  23. VehicleWonderful6586 on

Many many years ago I overheard the owner of Leon chatting to an investor outside their Carnaby Street branch. I recall thinking something which was an anagram of ‘pucking frick’

  24. Mundane_Lobster4145 on

I thought I’d found a healthy fast alternative. Then the last few times I went it was terrible so never went back.
