The lad with his arms crossed does not seem to have time for the lads chit chat.

This might be controversial, but judging by the pic… don’t international students need to prove that they can fund themselves adequately to come to Ireland? I mean, either you lied that you can support yourself or you are just cheating the system.

No hate, I’m not Irish either, but there have been similar instances of international students getting food from pantries in Canada for no good reason.

  3. Many of those students appear older than typical school leavers and are probably international (from the photo). If you’re coming to study in Ireland through the INIS, you must demonstrate that you can finance your 3- or 4-year stay. I suspect that some here are simply using the service without genuinely needing it.

It’s very odd to publish a photo of people in a queue for a food bank without ensuring they are happy to be photographed.

“We don’t call ourselves a food bank, we call ourselves a food pantry. It is like a free grocery store for the student community of food that is surplus,” he said”

And therein lies the problem. Students who don’t actually need it are using it. They’re students, it’s free, they’re spending their money on other things and I don’t mean rent. Been out in Galway on a Thursday night recently?

The same thing happens in Cork with an actual free food pantry. Meant to be for homeless or genuinely needy people but a lot of it is collected by international students. I’ve heard many times that it’s recommended amongst them by word of mouth.

Not surprised by this in the slightest between student rent being astronomical every food bank is under incredible pressure
