      That’s not the solution to the current problem, I think. The current problem is the lack of funds to make proper courses, and the lack of language teachers.

      Maybe that’s part of what they’ll address.

      I do agree with that decision. But I am also concerned that nobody is going to pick german as a third language if english is competition… and there are already so few who do when they have a second and a third language to chose.

      I’m in Brussels and my 23 years old stepson has had Nederlands classes from kindergarten until his third year in haute école. So 17-18 years of Nederlands classes in total. Always was a good student, always had good grades. 

      And according to him, he can’t speak the language, and neither can his friends. Maybe he’s exaggerating a bit, but I think what happened is that he simply treated Nederlands as maths – a school subject you study because you must, be that doesn’t stick as soon as you’re out of school.

      Not sure how you can fix that.
