Hey no worries, our government is doing their best to make us rely more on gas again at the moment.

Oh, those damn Europeans have misread the message from Washington again. /s
The U.S. called for increased defense spending, and the EU did just that- but then started buying its own weapons, which drew an angry response from the White House.
The Americans urged Europe to break free from Russian energy dependence, and Europe practically did- and along the way, decided it didn’t want to become dependent on the U.S. either.
And once again, the Americans are unhappy.
Hopefully, Europe will soon start breaking free from U.S. dependence in IT products as well.

American here: please do. We apparently need some humility.
Can’t say how it’ll play out, but with half the country thinking the confederate flag (basically our swastika) is a god-given right we need to be brought to heel.

It’s only unfortunate if your geopolitical cudgels are reliant on energy and resource monopolies.
The “quiet part out loud” bit is found in the 2025 “National Security Strategy” document. Not to mince words, but the current thought model seems to be to divide the world back into “spheres of influence” dominated by 3 specific superpowers. The EU are intended to be vassal states of the US or Russia, nothing more.

Unfortunate but absolutely necessary. Same with tech or other domains. At least partially for now.

EU says US ambition to cut reliance on international partnerships, decades long friendships and treaties, and general decorum is ‘unfortunate’.

Letting a known pedophile run your country is “unfortunate”.
And even without that, the US cannot be trusted.
And even if the US could be trusted, reliance on external energy sources is a strategic weakness.

Wouldn’t Europe just get gas from Canada and Mexico? I’m sure those countries would be more than happy to do more business with Europe.
