Social Media Apps don’t need to check/verify your identitiy, the only thing your phone sends is “Yes, person is over 18” (or it doesn’t even do that, the App Store simply verifies “yes, person is over 18”).

What the fu? Are we really putting age verification on everything now? Soon you’ll see age verification on toilets if this sh** continues.

I would rather have apple do this than individual apps. they have a good security and privacy track record despite all their flaws

As if the UK first tested the model in their **commonwealth state Australia** before rolling out the age verification in UK.
Smooth.
Too bad it means loss of agency, sovereignty, privacy, and freedom for it’s citizens.

Saying “I don’t live in the UK” or “I don’t use Apple” kinda misses the point. Like it or not, this stuff has a way of reaching everyone eventually.

There might be silver linings to this, maybe people will get tired of their (and mine) little hand surveillance machine and will look for alternatives, or boycott social media, new devices, new platforms, who knows.
I know that I would never add any personal documents for neither site nor phone.

I am curious to think what people think about making people liable for purposefully spreading misinformation and and any other crimes that the anonymous nature of social media makes it a safe haven.
I am not defending checks on identity but at the same time it feels the only viable solution. It would be a nice debate to have on Reddit

For those who has credit card attached to apple account – nothing changes as far as I understand
> In one of the screenshots, Apple notes that it may automatically confirm that users are over 18 using the payment method connected to their account

Lots of heated opinion around this but let’s remember, any government already have all the data they want about you. Honestly I don’t think this will change anything.

Thanks God I don’t live in UK 😊
I feel like this is kind of the best solution?
