      So these countries will defend the arab countries under attack by Iran in order to «protect their interests», but won’t do the same to defend Ukraine repel russian aggression? Ukrainians endure attacks every day, and has for 4 years and the West is still reluctant to intervene. We don’t even react when Russia deliberately sends drones into our territories… Gulf countries come under attack for just one day and they are ready to mobilize their forces for war. This is infuriating.

      I commend them for switching positions, but it cannot be without criticism. As usual, European powers move through the phases of disapproval (A), doubt (B) and then revision of former views (C). In this case, the European leaders have found out that the USA took the decision for them, again, and that the basic position of Europe is again weak.

      We can shout about international law all day we want, but hard power rules this world at the end of the day. It is just that us Europeans like to live in the delusion that diplomacy – that did nothing the past 20 years for solving the Iranian problem – is a better alternative in our dangerous world.

      They are going to help defending the gulf states and start preparing to intervene if Iran interrupts the straight of Hormuz. 25% of the oil goes through that straight. And it is good to have some assets to secure our energy

      We’re in a hard-power world right now.

      We could be delusional and act like we could all be holding hands and talk with eachother. Or we could look reality in the face, acknowledge shitty countries with shitty regimes exists that only think in hard-power. Then a tit-for(-two)-tats foreign policy approach is logical.

      We all know Iran is the #1 sponsor of terror world. That they respect our sovereignty and our way of life. Or at least tolerate its existance.

      And with a proven track record, then no: an appeal to Iran’s right to defend itself does not hold water.

      They have given up that right a long time ago, and it’s time they faced certain justice.

      For our sake, for their people’s sake, for world peace
