Support for the conflict (2 March and 9 March)
Initial data from Monday 2 March, shortly after the onset of hostilities, found Britons opposed to the attacks by 49% to 28%.

Attitudes differ significantly by party, with the majority of Reform UK voters (58%) and a plurality of Tories (49%) backing the strikes, but the majority of Labour and Lib Dem voters (63-64%) and Greens (70%) opposed.

Asked the same data a week later, the public had become 10 points more likely to oppose the conflict (59%), while support remained about steady at 25%. Opposition increased among Green, Lib Dem, Labour and Tory voters, but remained largely the same among Reform UK voters.

    >The British public tend to think Keir Starmer has managed the UK’s response to the US-Iran conflict badly, with 47% saying so compared to 34% who think he has managed it well.

It says a lot about how unfairly Starmer is treated in the media that the actions he’s taking is exactly what the majority of the country wants him to do, yet people still think he’s not handling it right.

  3. Absolutely staggering to me that a majority think Starmer has managed our response badly.

I personally think he’s played an absolute blinder, and I don’t really see how you can make a good faith argument otherwise.

At this point, there seems to be a section of the population who are just desperate to oppose anything Starmer does.

    > Attitudes differ significantly by party, with the majority of Reform UK voters (58%) … backing the strikes

Let’s see what that is after Farage’s u-turn.

“Wait, Nigel is against it now? Well then so am I. I can’t believe Starmer is sending shps to the Middle East, etc”

  5. Public opinion against both the US and Israel mean that any party that sides with the US will have a hard time at the polls.

  6. Other than blind loyalty to a foreign criminal why are the right wing in this country so supportive of this war?

What is it about wanting smaller government that makes people want to spend billions killing people in forever wars?

To me i can see no logic to it beyond cultish loyalty to people who wouldn’t piss on you if you were on fire

While I accept that we live in an imperfect world, I’ll never be convinced it can be made better with war!

Amazing how the public has seen through the agenda set by certain areas of Media and certain politicians to firmly be against UK getting involved in Iran even with the hawking certain outlets and people have been doing for us to join the US, actively working against and briefing against the UK Government to try and turn public sentiment to support, however has opposite effect and more in favour of not getting involved.

An illegal war fought by child-rapists, mass murderers and warmongers.

    It’s not hard, really.

If the people of Iran emerge happier at the end of it then the world will be a better place.

We should be listening to them.

    Sorry what?

This is Israels war against Iran

The rest of us are just along for the ride

The guys running Iran are definitely wrong-uns. No doubt. Dangerous wrong-uns. I don’t think the US’s approach is going to end how they think. Its going to be a lot of noise, a lot of $$$ and lot of lives lost and once the dust settles, the mind-set of the Guard (IRG) will persist and nothing much will change.

I don’t like Kier. But he’s right to hang back on this. Who’d follow an idiot like Trump into battle….?

All we should be doing is making sure any British Citizens in the area have an out if they need it. Yes, even those who’ve move to the ME to earn more and pay no tax.

That the US are so arrogant they think they are the world; they are not. Indiscriminate bombing kills innocent people and galvanises the resolve of a nation, making an enemy of those people for more than a generation. This cannot be the way any longer. Violence, murder and bullying should be outlawed for all nations. 2 wrongs do not make a right. The endless pursuit of profit at all costs should no longer be justification for starting wars.

I think the UK responded third best after Turkey and Spain in general, even though the situation is not the best due to Andrew and Mandelson.

  15. I don’t know anyone who thinks Starmer has done a bad job. Most of them are reform and tory voters.

  16. Porticulus on

I mean I’m no fan of Mr puritan and censorship obsessed Starmer, but this is the one thing I think he’s done well on. Fuck the US.

Honestly, I’m trying to remember the last American war where they weren’t the aggressor. Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan, Venezuela and now Iran. This isn’t a dig at the yanks, but when was their last war when they weren’t the invaders?

Kind of a cynical thing to say but I’d love to see the average GCSE score alongside voters’ preferences.

Very difficult when you have one media outlet ( daily mirror) , supporting you

  20. Dissidant on

Context is important. The article is dated the 5th and the data its using is from last Monday
Alot can happen in a week, people became very irrate at the pumps for example
Plus the usual suspects banging the war drum (F-word) have even u-turned

  21. jenny_905 on

So as per usual it’s something the right support and something that the media never reflect the majority opinion on.

  22. corfugirl888 on

The UK has to be very wary of our media. The Daily Mail, Express etc are pushing a similar agenda to that of Fox News etc in USA when they decided they wanted Trump as president. USA media is very controlled by the right wing , we are going the same way sadly as too many people don’t have the ability to see beyond the headlines they want to push

  23. NightHawk_40 on

Funny that most comments I see about the UKs reaction to the war in Iran is only positive, even Lewis Goodall said the other day that polling suggested the majority of the country backed Starmer’s position on military involvement yet somehow the right wing rags, opposition parties still want you to believe the best thing for this country is to join an illegal war

  24. It’s worth noting that opposition to Britain being in the War is at 59% so the majority of the country don’t want to be involved. Where as others have pointed out a majority feel Keir Starmer has handled it badly.

So what is the electorates experience with Keir Starmer? To have never allowed the US access? To have granted it from the start? To do as we have done but got the Royal Navy into the region sooner?

  25. nostalgiamon on

And I wasn’t talking about the US at any point. I’m talking about the UK, and how Starmer has reacted. Where didn’t say that the US and Israel are acting defensively? They are the aggressors. I’m talking about how Starmer is reacting to this.

We can hold them to a better standard, whilst also acknowledging this isn’t something you can switch off like a light bulb. The US offer significant security to the UK and Europe. Their physical presence in our countries is a benefit from a military stand point. You can disagree on moral grounds.

  26. IcyExercise908 on

We are well out of it but Starmer seems hell bent on war with Russia. Without the US thats a laughable prospect.

  27. Infundibulus on

I’m pleased they called it a conflict and not a war, which it very much isn’t.

  28. Final_Fantasy_VII on

Well I can tell you this much , my YouTube algorithm defiantly hates him. Every day I’m bombarded with clips and click bait titles saying – Stammer humiliated – stammer coward – look how MP puts stammer to shame etc. It’s so annoying I found out and began to use the option for , show less of this content and don’t show me this channels but still to this day I get such clips when all I want to do is see some video games and travel blogs etc!! Why is YouTube forcing these videos down my throat!??

  29. AntJD1991 on

I wouldn’t have done anything different so far? Try to protect our assets without supporting the Orange idiot seems like the only sensible option.
