      I have been told those are Abstandsmesser, meaning they measure distances inbetween cars. But that was purely colloquial.

      It’s a Mautsäule. It tracks if heavy vehicles (above 7,5 tonnes) paid their toll.

      For this specific type of camera: camera for controlling toll payment. It is only applicable to heavy vehicles.

      These are license plate readers used to enforce tolls for heavy-duty trucks. They’re not speed cameras. Those look similar, but they’re grey instead of blue.
