Well…as somebody living on another continent, in another country, as mayor of one of the biggest cities in the world, he has somewhat different priorities…

This is a perfectly reasonable answer for a foreign politician (especially one who doesn’t go around claiming Irish heritage) to give. It would be unreasonable to expect him to be fully informed on the issue

Perfectly reasonable and appropriate response

Like asking the Taoiseach what he thinks about Washington DC statehood, but if that issue involved a recent ethnic civil war.

Who honestly gives a fuck if he does or not anyway? Hes opinion will have no bearing on the possible future of a united Ireland in th slightest

Honestly, I prefer this to the politicians that go off half informed.

Like mate, can you not stop talking about how much you support an independent and United Ireland…while advocating we rejoin the Commonwealth and have a King?

And then there’s the ones in favour of UI, but wax romantic about the various IRA splinter groups during the Troubles, as if they never did anything wrong. Being informed about our history means recognising and accepting when groups whose goals we agree with, take actions we disagree with. 

The ones that go off half informed opposed to UI are just as bad, but since I tend to lean in favour of UI, the pro-UI ignoramuses annoy me more.

This is a perfectly respectable answer that indicates he is aware of his own lack of knowledge and shows no sign of being adverse to learning more.
