Maybe a bit niche, but I don’t think the craft beer scene in Ireland would be where it is today without Whiplash, and by extension Alex. Terribly sad news to read. He must have been young, no older than 40 surely.

That’s very sad news. He made lovely beer and Fidelity is a great addition to the pub scene in Dublin

This is a brilliant piece from a few years ago that explains just how passionate and hardworking he was. He had a huge impact on independent brewing in Ireland and was as sound as they come. RIP.
Bit of a zany genius, folks. We’ve lost a real one. Hope he didnt suffer, whatever happened.

I’ve known Alex since he was a home brewer in the Liffey brewers brew club. It was through the club he got his first start in rye river as a professional brewer which ultimately led to him opening whiplash…an absolute gentleman and serious craic. Huge loss to the brew scene and Dublin nightlife. Shocking news.

I worked where they launched the first Whiplash beer and have met Alex countless times over the years. He was such a down to earth and funny dude who always popped in for a chat. Absoloutely gutted to hear this.

Had the pleasure of meeting him once and he was a really sound man and very generous with his time. So very sad. Rip Alex
