It’s a good point. They also can take things like property tax as a wage reduction. Again the state benefit.
It might be more complicated (slightly an md no excuse) to take money and pass it on.
But I’d like to see deductions for things like crime or loosing in court and refusing to pay also. Others will say it will encourage people not to work if they have to do the right thing and pay money they owe.

You can have court ordered salary deductions if they are a PAYE employee.
But a lot of work is paid off the books for many and you can’t automate cash.

Because there would be absolute war over the state taking money from people’s wages based on parental status that they never assented to as a process of law, and which would be open to question. There’s no grey area about accepting a wage.
For something like this to work, you would need to have a process by which a father can legally accept financial responsibility for a child – or not (known as a ‘[Paper Abortion](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paper_abortion)’). To which I say, good luck.
