I’m not surprised. They have our prices in the grocery stores but lower salaries.

I’ve been there and I’m not surprised. Terrible weather, low salaries, relatively high cost of living, and the looming threat of Russia on your borders…

Oddly, my favourite country in Europe that I’ve been to. Would seriously move there if a job came up.

Could someone explain how the job market and cost of living became so bad in Estonia? Every news story up to now that I’ve read about Estonia emphasizes how far it’s come in terms of wages and quality of life since joining the EU in 2004, which leaves me a bit confused.

Quite a sad article. Considering the birth rate and the fact that 15% already have firm plans to leave, it looks like Estonia will simply lose more than a third of its population in 30 years.
But I think the survey isn’t representative- the real numbers are different-and that some immigrants see Estonia as a good option.

It seems it’s time for finland to annex estonia. You will be the happiest country in the world (or else), and you will send your cheap alcohol to the mainland. It is decided.

Although this is not a positive statistic any way you spin it, there are two things to emphasise here
1) The important part here is “at least considering”, as 40% of overall respondents said they have “thought about” it, not that they think they necessarily will
2) The survey was done in Maaleht, which is a newspaper targeted at rural Estonians, who probably have it toughest in terms of economy and future outlook, but are a minority of Estonians overall (that is not to dismiss their needs, just to point out that the survey is not necessarily representative of Estonia as a whole)

I feel like this stat currently exists for all countries. The grass is always greener on the other side afterall.

What? First time I’m hearing of such poll.
Oh. 2700 votes in total, and only Maaleht readers. It’s a countryside and nature oriented newsletter. Statisticians would like a word with you.

Literally haven’t heard anyone think like that in Estonia.

Don’t take this too literally. Whining about things is our national sport.
