If he can get the unions to move to the Greens, that’s quite the power move, and opens up a ton of funding the party, but the Greens will need to move their stance on defence and nuclear as they are 2 heavily unionised industries.
Good. If the Greens do as well as many expect at the upcoming local elections, this would be a no-brainer for the unions. Why continue to hang onto a party that doesn’t represent you, your members, or their interests?
Doubt any Labour Affiliated ones will jump ship, losing access to the NEC, selection of MP’s and influencing party policy to support the Greens may be a step to far for them.
I am not even sure Sharon at Unite will totally pull the plug on affiliation although she does seem in a mood at the moment with Starmer and of course Ange over the Birmingham Bin dispute.
Fair enough, Labour pushed it’s left wing base away, they shouldn’t exactly act surprised when left wing institutions eventually leave too.
“The UK Green Party has faced scrutiny regarding its relationships with certain Muslim community figures and its stance on issues related to Islamist ideology, particularly after reports of targeting mosques for electoral support. Concerns have been raised regarding figures like Councillor Mothin Ali, who has been defended by the party despite facing criticism.”
Mothim Ali is now the co-Deputy Leader of the Green Party.
He also does not recognise Trans Women as Women.
I don’t care either way fwiw. Just putting it out there.
Many unions, especially those representing safety critical workplaces, are deeply concerned about the policy of “drug legalisation with regulated market” that Polanski has been promoting.
I know they oppose outsourcing of government jobs but If they committed to doing something about rampant outsourcing in the private sector, I wouldn’t cry if my union switched allegiance.
He can bugger right off – why would the unions support the UK Islamic party?
Can’t blame Polanski for trying but the idea that Labour have done nothing to benefit the working class is just blatantly wrong.
Minimum wage increase, renter’s rights bill, worker’s rights bill, school breakfast club, they’re all things that benefit workers in some form or other.
He is not any color Green, he is Hamas Green. Good luck supporting him.
In practice, this is likely to split many of the large trade unions and thus make them less powerful and thus, giving the workers less representation and bargaining power
Defence and aerospace are important unionised industries in the UK, the Greens are a direct threat to those industries. So if any union is acting in the interests of their members, they’ll tell him to go and fuck himself.
Left shout out reform are a populist movement, someone with a brain explain why voting green isn’t the same the same?
