How about we define ourselves as a nation that stays well the fuck clear of it all?

If the rules-based order is fading, the real issue is that we’ve built an economy around finance, not production.
That’s a national security vulnerability in a multipolar world.
This is a bit of a first-world problem and perhaps a bit selfish but I am curious, has anyone tried booking flights recently? Has this crisis made air travel prices skyrocket? I had a quick check and the prices I saw actually still seem fairly reasonable, which surprised me.
Probably my 6th ‘once in a generation’ event before 33.

Can we leave some things to the next generation, please? I think we are being a bit greedy here.
Why is the UK so acutely unresilient to global events? I swear all it takes is a crisis across the globe and we’re straight back into austerity and managed decline.
This is about the 5th ‘generational’ thing I’ve lived through and I’m not even 30 yet.

My generation has been defined by a once in a lifetime financial crash (happened 3 times now), a once in a lifetime pandemic (which lead to another financial crash) and now another war.
Obviously it isn’t any British party’s/politicians fault for this current shit-show, but it sure does suck to be the generation constantly shafted. I know every generation has it’s issues of their time, but ours seem to be the worst since WW2.
Why can’t we just get Mi6 or someone to slip something into his daily Big Mac and give us all some peace and quite for a change.
Then it’s very important its legacy here is, “we took no part in a purposeless, unsuccessful and illegal war, but helped to find a good resolution”
The post-WW2 peace is actually an aberration. The whole of human history has been like what’s happening now

Given China can build thousands of miles of motorways in the same time it takes us to just convert existing hard shoulders into an extra motorway lane it’s not surprising- everything public sector oriented takes forever – none of the MP/councils are used to working at the pace required

Isn’t it time we became energy independent from the world? Shouldn’t we place the country on a war footing approach to get that done? Surely this is the ONLY way to insulate ourselves and not rely on the middle east, Russia, Norway or US for us to keep the lights on, heat our homes and run our industry?

The majority of our sanctions on Iran are due to their nuclear program. The US says its destroyed. The UK and EU should ease sanctions to allow the strait to be open to our boats. The alternative is getting punished for a war Israel and the US started.
Why in gods name would you say this? Unless you are girding the populace for UK entry into the war in earnest?
This could be a positive. Rising to the challenge and evolving as a nation would define us. The status quo is dead and it’s time for reinventing ourselves. I think the strides in renewables is a fantastic start, the next should be to renew our ties with Europe.
Food, fuel, medicine all going to run out eventually.
Hormuz being closed and the price of crude rocketing is going to absolutely fuck Europe.
