A lightweight ebike with the torque sensor is nothing short of a game-changer in an urban environment, but people gamble with the overweight cheapo landfill junkbuckets on many different levels, fire is just an extreme example. If these bikes are CE marked and use the correct charger I’m guessing they are fine would that be right?
Is this a case of bike shops charging exactly what the bike to work scheme will allow for them when they are making a serious markup and the media department wanting to stop people importing their own stuff and saving a fortune.

Batteries that are damaged cause fires. They are low to the ground often so get damaged quiet often. Charge these things outside
