Someone doesn’t want to share their Blue Light card benefits!

But seriously.. if the NHS and Palantir are working together effectively, they need no barriers to their communication. Getting them onto Teams calls etc. easily is the best way for this given the integration NHS mail systems.

“David Rowland, the director of the Centre for [Health](https://www.theguardian.com/society/health) and the Public Interest, said: “The fact Palantir staff working on the contract have been granted NHS email addresses may not in itself amount to any rule breach and is likely to occur in other instances where private contractors run NHS services.

“But the strong reaction of NHS staff to the involvement of Palantir in the health service shows that there are deep ethical concerns that its values and way of making money run counter to the founding values of the NHS.

“The controversy around Palantir is but one example of private companies with problematic backgrounds delivering health and social care services in the UK – it’s time for a full-scale review of which companies are getting NHS money and how they were awarded contracts.””

Palantir’s founders include the US businessman and Trump backer [Peter Thiel](https://www.theguardian.com/technology/peter-thiel), who has said “the NHS makes people sick”, and [Alex Karp](https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2025/nov/18/fear-really-drives-him-is-alex-karp-of-palantir-the-worlds-scariest-ceo), who boasted that the company’s spy technology helps clients “scare” and “kill” enemies. Its UK arm is headed by [Louis Mosley](https://observer.co.uk/news/national/article/how-tech-giant-palantir-was-recruited-by-the-police-nhs-and-military), grandson of the British fascist leader [Oswald Mosley](https://www.theguardian.com/uk/oswald-mosley).

Every company I’ve ever worked for has assigned email addresses to contingent workers. This is a basic integration with any identity access system.

I’m no fan of Palantir, but this story is meaningless.

This is pretty common across any organisation that hires contractors long term. It makes it much easier and secure this way in terms of granting the correct access levels etc.

The fact the NHS is paying Palantir to steal all its data is such a joke.

This has been the case with Palantir since they first got involved during COVID.

And before that, temporary contractors on other programmes would have NHS.net accounts.

Like them or not, if they’re working for the NHS they need the access.

The easier way to spot them is their nice offices on Teams calls and MacOS when screen sharing.

Of all the many, many things to hate – viscerally – about Palantir and Karp and his slimy tendrils latching themselves onto the NHS, this is a weak hill to die on.

  8. very poor journalism from the guardian. This is industry practice and for most of large organisations it is not a question “oh do we prefer our contractors work from their devices, using their tools, or do we want only let them use our devices and not take data outside”, it’s a requirement that can’t be circumvented even if you want it very very much. People who have to implement that – most likely hate it, because instead of nice powerfull macbook pros / lenovos they get a shitty dell/hp with a screen resolution from 2012.

That is literally the most normal thing ever?

Palintir are shit but this is normal practice.

This has been true from the start. Their emails and signatures will say things like “COVID-19 Support Hub” and “North of England Commissioning Support Unit”. If asked outright if they are Palantir they cant lie and say no, but they wont volunteer this information.
